VISHAKAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old girl died after she got stuck between the lift and its door in an apartment at Tarakarama Nagar in Madhurwada area here, on Sunday afternoon.
Police said that the girl's father works as a watchman in an apartment besides Kotas Residency and Swathi, on her summer vacation, frequently visited her aunt, a watchman of Kotas residency, who lived on the premises.
Swathi was studying in class III at a school in Madhurwada. According to PM Palem Inspector K Lakshmana Murthy, the girl was trying to enter the lift after closing the grill but failed to notice the doors shutting.

Given her lean stature, she was stuck in the little space between the door and grill. Meanwhile, other residents also started calling the lift to different floors, causing it to move with the girl in between.
"The girl didn’t have much power to come out and got crushed. The incident happened within seconds. Swathi, who received severe injuries on her chest and stomach, died on the spot,” said Inspector Lakshmana Murthy.
The police have registered a case and the body has been shifted to King George Hospital (KGH) for autopsy.
