VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Airport will be renamed Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Amaravati International Airport and the one at Renigunta near Tirupati as Sri Venkateswara International Airport.
The Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Thursday approved a proposal to this effect.
The state government will convey to the Centre the decision and request for the change in names.
The Cabinet also decided to hand over the required land to the Bhogapuram Airport Authority at basic price for setting up a greenfield airport at Orvakallu of Kurnool district.
In view of increasing temperature levels in the onset of summer, the Cabinet suggested to the Chief Secretary to organise video conferences and teleconferences on a regular basis with officials in the districts for taking necessary measures to ease the problem and prevent people from becoming victims of sun stroke.
