VIJAYAWADA: The Energy Resources Institute is keen on entering into an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government to help in making Amaravati a smart and energy efficient global city, TERI director general Ajay Mathur has said.
Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, will emerge as a green energy city and TERI will extend necessary know-how in that direction, he said.
The state is already being acclaimed as the best in energy resources management and energy saving.
A high-level TERI team will visit Andhra Pradesh shortly for discussing the modalities of the MoU, he said.
TERI is an internationally reputed research institute in the field of energy, environment and sustainable development.
The proposed MoU will provide several benefits to civic agencies, utility companies and people in general in releasing the dream of smart and green living.
Latest technologies are being used in the construction of buildings in Amaravati, which will result in around 50 per cent energy saving without compromising comfort levels, he said.
Mathur was delivering the keynote address at the 8th GRIHA Summit being organised by the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment Council in collaboration with the TERI in New Delhi on Friday.
He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has become the champion of energy efficiency and his efforts would go a long way in the areas of environmental protection, energy savings and overall economic development.
He described the distribution of two crore LED bulbs to one crore families in one year in AP as a world record and said it resulted in an estimated annual energy saving of 1,500 million units (MU).
The TERI director general said 100 per cent LED street lighting with centralised control and monitoring system (CCMS) in Visakhapatnam is a role model for every state to emulate.
Ajay Jain, principal secretary (energy, investment and infrastructure and CRDA), who was invited as special guest for GRIHA Summit, in his message through A Chandrasekhar Reddy, CEO of Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation (APSEEDCO), said the state government is putting all efforts to place Andhra Pradesh as the most energy efficient state by adopting latest innovations in the field.
He said the main purpose of the efforts is to ensure environmental protection and energy security for the future generation, as it will result in substantial contribution on economic front.
Sanjay Seth, CEO, GRIHA Council and Saurabh Kumar, managing director of Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), were present.
