Andhra Pradesh pollution control board bats for fly-ash bricks for construction

The use of fly-ash bricks and energy saving lighting must be encouraged, PCB chairman said.

VIJAYAWADA: The State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has suggested the builders to use fly ash bricks instead of natural bricks in the construction of residential and commercial buildings in AP. 

The PCB has conducted a stakeholders meet on green technology buildings at a private hotel in the city on Thursday.

PCB chairman Phani Kumar said that the architects and builders should come with green concepts and bring awareness to the people on environmental-friendly constructions. 

“The use of fly ash bricks and energy saving lighting must be encouraged by the State officials, builders and contractors. The green buildings are not those with just plants and trees, the buildings must be enabled with environment-friendly equipment and green infrastructure which would save 40 per cent of energy and they will not emit toxic waste,”  he said. 

The PCB officials also said that the government had made PCB certificate mandatory for any kind of construction in the State. 

The board has collaborated with a few departments of the State government to ensure that the constructions are taking place in with at least 33 per cent of greenery. 

The use of fly ash bricks were highly recommended by the architects and PCB officials as there is a huge resource of fly ash from the thermal power stations of AP.

Anumita Chowdary, executive director of CSE, has suggested constructing the buildings with five component rule of green concepts. The buildings should be planned in such a way to utilise daylight. Proper ventilation would make a good air circulation. 

The materials for eco-friendly building must have the properties like reduce, reuse and recycle. 

CREDAI state president A Siva Reddy said that the attitude towards builders should be changed as there is a constant growth of 10 per cent is seen in the sector. 

The massive construction of housing is going to take place in the state as a part of capital establishment. He stated that the PCB and architects to concentrate on the massive housings and ensure them to undergo with green concepts.
