SRIKAKULAM: A former Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan who killed seven people including his two children on one day in 2010, was found murdered in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh Friday evening.

The body of Metta Shankar Rao, 43, was found in the bush near the Vamsadhara river near the village of Sumantapuram in LN Peta mandal.

It is learnt that two men suspected of the murder have surrendered to the police, but there was no confirmation from the latter.

Metta Shankar Rao hit the headlines on November 30 in 2010 when he went on a murder spree in his village of Metapeta, killing seven people. Among the victims were his 9-year-old son Divakar and 6-year-old daughter Manasa whom he beheaded and placed the heads in the forecourt of a temple.

Shankar Rao previously murdered his wife Vijaya in 2005, and nursed a grudge against people of the village as they testified against him in the case. He was sentenced to seven years in jail. He was released on parole, but carried out the murder spree before surrendering to the police. He then said he had killed the children as there would be no one to look after them once he was jailed.

A Srikakulam court, after hearing the testimony of 48 witnesses from the village, awarded Shankar Rao the death penalty on April 30, 2012. He appealed to the High Court which ruled that Shankar Rao was mentally unbalanced when he committed the murder and directed the police to make arrangements for his treatment.

According to sub-inspector Ashok Babu of Sarubujjili, Shankar Rao was released again in 2014 and found employment as a security guard in Bobbili in Vizianagaram district.

Shankar Rao’s old enemies got to know of this and abducted him from his work place and killed him on Friday at an isolated place before disposing of the body at Podugupadu. A case has been registered at the Sarubujjili police station.
