Central projects: MPs tick off Visakhapatnam district officials for laxity

MPs K Haribabu and Muttamsetty (Avanthi) Srinivas blamed the district-level officers for benefits of government schemes not reaching the grassroots level.

VISAKHAPATNAM: MPs K Haribabu and Muttamsetty (Avanthi) Srinivas blamed the district-level officers for benefits of government schemes not reaching the grassroots level.

In particular, the Central government sanctioned many welfare and developmental projects to the district, but local authorities were not focusing on those projects and did not give proper publicity for  the works. They also said that officials were keeping them in the dark on the projects.

They conducted a review meeting on all the Central government’s ongoing projects and their progress at the collectorate here on Thursday. They expressed their dissatisfaction on the attitude of the officials.

Haribabu said that if officials informed them about the hurdles in completing any Central project, they should try to resolve the problems by talking with the concerned Central ministers.

“Many six and four-lane expansion works of National Highway and other main roads which are directly connected to Visakhapatnam were sanctioned by the Central government recently. By the successful completion of all those road works, Vizag should definitely get Rs 25,000-crore investments. So, all the officers should concentrate on these projects first,” said Haribabu.

Srinivas said the government sanctioned the six-lane Anandapuram-Pendurthi-Anakapalle National Highway.
