VISAKHAPATNAM: Around 2,000 police personnel will be deployed for the safe conduct of Telugu Desam Party’s Mahanadu, which is scheduled to be conducted from May 27 to 29. The city traffic police have arranged special parking places for various sections of people attending the  event.

Addressing newsmen, assistant commissioner of police (ACP-Traffic) K Prabhakar said that as per the TDP members, over 25,000 people would attend the event for which the arrangements are being made. He said that anticipating traffic issues in the peak hours at Maddilapalem junction, the traffic department is making elaborate arrangements.

“The ministers, MLAs, and other TDP members would attend the event during the day and leave by the night. For around one and a half hours, there would be VIP movement in the area and then the traffic would be normal. There is no need to worry about heavy VIP movement. Routes have been decided for them and they won’t disturb the regular traffic,” said the ACP.

Prabhakar also said that they had allotted parking places for ministers, MLAs, party members coming in buses and common public at Sir Issac Newton Hostel Block, AU Exhibition Grounds and AU Gymnasium grounds. He said that all police personnel, including Road Opening Parties (ROP), Traffic, Law and Order (L&O) and Crime will total 1,500 to 2,000.

CCTV surveillance would be set up at major junctions to bring the city under complete security blanket. Prabhakar also added that more details on the security arrangements would be announced in the coming days.
