Thunderstorm with squally winds likely across state

There has been a fall in maximum temperatures at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh recording below normal, while temperatures over Rayalaseema were above normal at a few places.

VISAKHAPATNAM: There has been a fall in maximum temperatures at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh recording below normal, while temperatures over Rayalaseema were above normal at a few places. The highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jangamaheswarapuram on Thursday. 


Out of the 670 mandals, only 13 mandals recorded heat wave conditions and 76 mandals faced hot conditions. As per the daily report by Andhra Pradesh State Development Planning Society (APSDPS), as many as 25 mandals are likely to record heat wave conditions and 266 mandals may face hot conditions in the next 24 hours. As per the IMD report, maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius at isolated places over South Coastal AP in the next 24 hours. 


Meanwhile, there has been a drop in temperatures at a few places over the coastal AP and Rayalaseema because of rain. Many mandals in Vizianagaram district received 4 cm rainfall and mandals in Anantapur district received rainfall up to 3 cm. A low pressure area formed over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining area of Central Bay of Bengal.

The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level. It is likely to become more marked over east central Bay of Bengal during next three-four days. The trough from eastern parts of Bihar to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across interior Odisha extending up to 0.9 km above the mean sea level has become less marked.

The upper air cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood extending up to 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked. “The weather system is likely to record thunderstorm accompanied with squally winds at isolated places in all the districts of AP  in the next 24 hours,” said the IMD.
