RTA wields the whip against traffic violators

The RTA officials have acted tough with motorists committing violations under the Motor Vehicles Act by not only booking cases but also sending proposals for cancellation of their driving licence.

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM : The RTA officials have acted tough with motorists committing violations under the Motor Vehicles Act by not only booking cases but also sending proposals for cancellation of their driving licence.Even as traffic enforcement and awareness on adherence to road rules through various modes were being done on one side, rule violations have persisted if the number of cases booked is any indication.

A special drive was launched against violations committed under the Motor Vehicles Act within the city limits, during which 500 cases were booked under various heads against rule offenders. The RTA officials viewed violations committed under certain heads of the Motor Vehicles Act as serious. They are drunk driving, over speeding, cell phone driving, red light jumping and overloading and transporting passengers on goods vehicles.

Traffic violations like minors behind wheels and drunk driving should be dealt with stricter penalties and punishment, opined Siri Anand, Road Transport Officer. “All motorists have to carry their original driving licence without fail. For juvenile crimes, the guardian or owner of the vehicle will be deemed guilty with a hefty fine, he said.
