RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM : The Water Resources authorities during a surprise check noticed that four boats from Polavaram to Papikondalu were carrying more tourists than the permissible limit at Singannapallii and suspended their licences for a period of 15 days.“In case, they repeat such mistakes, their licences will be cancelled permanently,” said the Water Resources authorities. A large number of tourists from various places across the State show interest in visiting Papikondalu.

The tourists wish to travel by boats on Godavari river to have a glimpse of hilly terrain, sand dunes and tribal habitations. The tourists travel all the way to Rajamahendravaram and from there, they travel by road to Polavaram and from there they board the boat to reach Papikondalu area. 

According to the officials, 60 boats are available from Polavaram and Pochavaram to visit Papikondalu and the number of tourists increases during weekends. They further said that they insist the passengers on wearing life jackets. The boats should have two engines, a river depth indicator and other safety equipment. It is understood that the responsibility lies with the police, revenue, water resources and AP Tourism Development Corporation to ensure the safety of passengers.
