SRIKAKULAM: Collector K Dhananjaya Reddy has promised that all the tribals villages in the limits of Seethampeta ITDA will get proper roads by March next year. He instructed the ITDA to include the tribal village of Kondachorlangi in Sambham Panchayat in the list of villages where connecting roads are being laid. The move came after TNIE highlighted the plight of the residents of Kondachorlangi in the report Tribal women go through hell in Srikakulam (October 31).

For several years, the residents of the hamlet have been carrying patients, even pregnant women, in a dolee (local parlance for a make-shift stretcher) and trekking down the hilly terrain to reach a relatively plane area from where they can catch an ambulance.

The absence of timely emergency healthcare is taking a toll on patients. Recently, the Srikakulam collector and the ITDA project officer, L Shiva Sankar, inspected the road laying works at Adali, Sambham, Rayi Manuguda, Tuppalaguda and Jillam Guda villages in the limits of Seethampeta mandal, covering a distance of 40 km.

“After the collector’s order, ITDA officials visited Kondachorlangi which was earlier not included in the list of villages where the connecting roads are being laid. The collector has directed us to include the village in the next phase of works,” ITDA project officer L Shiva Sankar told TNIE.  P5
