1.4 kg gold, Rs 5 L stolen onboard train

HYDERABAD: Unidentified persons stole a bag containing `5 lakh, 126 tola gold and diamonds from a passenger onboard the Hyderabad-bound Godavari Express on Wednesday night. 
The incident came to light after a theft complaint was lodged with the Secunderabad Railway Police on Thursday morning.Railway Inspector S Chandraiah said Vani, 48, and her family who live in SR Nagar of Hyderabad went to Rajahmundry to attend her brother’s house warming function on Wednesday.

They boarded the Godavari Express train in Rajahmundry on their way back to Hyderabad. The complainant claimed the family was carrying a total of six bags, but kept only the bag containing gold and cash with them.It was only after the family reached Hyderabad that they noticed the bag was missing. They searched for it in vain. Vani immediately intimated the Secunderabad Railway Police of the theft.


Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and begun investigation.Police are hoping to identify the thieves by checking CCTV camera footage at stations where the train stopped.
