VIJAYAWADA: Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar has warned officials against laxity in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).At a review meeting held at the Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Secretary asked the officials not to deny job cards to the deserving and ensure that those who are needy are provided work.Dinesh Kumar was unhappy that farm ponds were not being dug at the expected scale particularly in East and West Godavari, Guntur, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts. He wanted officials to promote awareness on the benefits of farm ponds among farmers and ensure that they are built in big numbers.

However, he expressed satisfaction with the building of CC roads for the last two years which in fact had overshot the target. He wanted the officials to work with the same missionary zeal and record impressive growth.

When it came to Anganwadi buildings, Kumar was unhappy again. He said he would take action against the officials concerned if Anganwadi Central Buildings are not constructed as planned this year. The chief secretary expressed his desire to raise horticulture plantations as targeted and also raise trees along road sides.
