Scorpio veers off into canal in Andhra Pradesh village, six of family killed

Five women and a two-year-old girl died on the spot while two men sustained serious injuries.

ELURU: Six persons including a two-year-old girl died and two others were injured in a road mishap at Kovvali village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh Thursday evening.

The driver of the Scorpio lost control of the steering and drove the vehicle into an irrigation canal. Eight people of a family from Malavalli village in Bapulapadu mandal in Krishna district were travelling in the vehicle to attend a family function at Kovvali in Denduluru.

Five women and a two-year-old girl died on the spot while two men sustained serious injuries.  Local people rushed to assist the stricken and the injured were shifted to a government hospital. The bodies of those killed were shifted to a government hospital for post-mortem procedures.

The deceased have been identified as Chinnala Lakshmi (61), Kumari (50), Sulochana (60), Vijaya (50), Devi (25) and Sri (2).  A case has been registered and an investigation has been taken up.
