Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation identifies 75 accident-prone zones in East Godavari

As many as 79 accidents involving RTC buses have, so far, occurred in the district this year. Out of the total, 33 mishaps took place on highways, 25 in rural areas and 21 on other roads.

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has identified 75 accident-prone zones in East Godavari district as part of its commitment to ensuring the safety of passengers.Speaking to TNIE here on Thursday, RTC regional manager R Ravi Kumar said, “We have laid emphasis on the concept ‘Travel in RTC buses is safe’ to increase the occupancy ratio in buses and augment our revenue.”As many as 79 accidents involving RTC buses have, so far, occurred in the district this year. Out of the total, 33 mishaps took place on highways, 25 in rural areas and 21 on other roads. 


The number of two-wheeler riders involved in the accidents is 29. The incidence of mishaps on Tuni-Ravulapalem Highway is quite high.As a measure to avoid mishaps, the RTC has identified accident-prone zones under the purview of nine depots in the district. The black spots include busy junctions, sharp bends and entry points into towns. 

“An awareness drive will be taken up to sensitise RTC drivers about accident-prone zones and they will be asked apply caution while driving at the black spots. The matter has been discussed with RTC depot managers who have been advised to take all measures to ensure the safety of bus passengers,” he said.
