GUNTUR: AP Secretariat employees organised a 2 km walkathon from Tadikonda Adda Road to Tadikonda on Monday demanding a non-stop RTC bus service from Guntur to Velagapudi.

According to Secretariat employees, the APSRTC is plying a bus from Guntur bus station at 8:30 am. It arrives at SVN Colony at 8:45 am. The bus reaches Velagapudi at 10:30 am. Earlier, the RTC bus used to run as a non-stop service from SVN Colony to Velagapudi. Now, the RTC bus is stopping at several places between SVN Colony and Velagapudi.

As a result, the employees are not able to reach the Secretariat in time. The biometric attendance system at the Secretariat records the late arrival of employees for duty. “We are forced to apply for a day’s leave if we are late now. Though we made a representation to the RTC authorities seeking a non-stop bus service from SVN Colony to Velagapudi like the one between  Tenali and Velagapudi, no steps have been taken in this regard. Hence, we organised the protest,” the employees said. Having learnt about the protest, RTC Regional Manager G Srihari reached Tadikonda and held talks with the employees. He promised to run the non-stop RTC bus service to Velagapudi to ensure that the employees reach Secretariat in time.
