Special category status: Health of two fasting MPs worsens; YSRC MLAs to quit?

The indefinite fast of YSRC party MPs demanding special category status at AP Bhavan in Delhi entered the fifth day on Tuesday.

VIJAYAWADA: The indefinite fast of YSRC party MPs demanding special category status at AP Bhavan in Delhi entered the fifth day on Tuesday.The health condition of two MPs, YS Avinash Reddy and P Mithun Reddy, has reportedly started deteriorating. A team of doctors conducted a health check-up on them and found that ketone levels in their bodies have increased. Both the MPs were found suffering from headache, dizziness and nausea. Further, their blood sugar levels are also dipping. Their body weight has decreased by 5 kg. However, both the MPs are firm on continuing their fast.

Already, three MPs of the party, Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, V Varaprasad Rao, and YV Subba Reddy, who sat on an indefinite fast along with two other MPs, were shifted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where they are reportedly continuing their fast.

YSRC party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy interacted with the fasting MPs through a video conference and enquired about their health. He hailed the unwavering determination of his MPs and their dedication to the cause of the State.  

He said taking inspiration from his MPs, they have intensified the agitation for SCS in the State and took up highway bandh and Vanta Varpu on the road. Further, on Wednesday, the party will organise rail roko.

On the other hand, there has been a steady influx of party leaders and workers to the protest camp to extend solidarity with the fasting MPs. Even leaders of other Opposition parties like Sitaram Yechury and Sharad Pawar had visited the protest camp to extend their support.

While the YSRC party MPs are continuing with their agitation in Delhi, TDP MPs, who staged a couple of protest programmes in Delhi, returned to the State following directions of their party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu.

Meanwhile, YSRC, which made its MPs resign to their seats to put pressure on the NDA Government, is now contemplating on intensifying the agitation. In all likelihood, it may make its MLAs also resign. The YSRC, which is the principal Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly, has already boycotted two consecutive Assembly sessions including the recent Budget session. 

Jagan assures weavers of help
YSRC party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy continued his Praja Sankalpa Yatra on 133rd day on Tuesday. He walked a total distance of 9 km from Pedavadlapudi to Mangalagiri, covering 1,738.1 km till date. In Mangalagiri, he participated in the Atmiya Sammelanam with handloom weavers. During the interaction, weavers explained their problems to him and said there is no proper support from the government. Jaganmohan Reddy assured help to them if his party comes to power.

Rasta roko staged
Demanding Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh and extending solidarity with their MPs, who are on an indefinite fast in Delhi, YSRC party leaders and activists across the State staged a rasta roko on highways. A bike rally was taken out in Nellore, while party workers  begged in Anantapur to mark their protest.  While the agitators were arrested across the the State, party leaders were put under house arrest at several places. There were no reports of any untoward incidents.
