25 students fall ill in Andhra Pradesh after taking hostel food

GUNTUR: In yet another incident of food poisoning in Guntur district, a total of 25 students were admitted to a primary health centre at Nadendla in the early hours of Friday with giddiness and vomiting after having dinner from a social welfare hostel.

It is learnt that the students of the social welfare hostel were given meals prepared with water drawn from a well on Thursday night. Some of the students complained of stomach ache while others started to vomit after consuming food at night. The condition became worse on Friday morning. Narasaraopet deputy DM&HO Dr. Shyamala, Yadlapadu primary health centre doctors Kishore and Lakshmi Naik and Ganapavaram primary health centre Dr. Gopi Naik visited the students at the PHC.

Dr. Shyamala said the students have been given supplementary fluids, to replenish water loss. Officials from health service department, meanwhile, inspected the hostel. They said they have collected food samples, which would be sent to the laboratory for testing. Health department officials also inspected sanitation and hygienic conditions in the hostel and school.

PHC doctor V Somla Naik said the students B Simhadri, A Narendra, B Venkateswara Rao, Anand Babu, Elisha and others were kept under observation till they regained their health completely. He said that the health condition of all the students was stable and and they are discharged on Friday afternoon. Simhadri was shifted to government hospital in Guntur for better treatment.
