TIRUPATI: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Higher Vedic Studies, a deemed university, has taken up the mammoth task of making Vedas, Vedangas, Puranas and Itihasas, along with related ancient script, available in popular Telugu language.

Aiming to complete the project at the earliest, the institute has set a deadline of a maximum of two to three years, along with publishing of translated literary works in Telugu for the entire project.
In a move to bring Vedas and its related literature to all, the project has been taken up by Sri Venkateswara Vedic University.

University Vice-Chancellor P Bhaskar said, “In the first phase, the move is to find out readily available translated scripts from Sanskrit in TTD and TTD related projects and publish them in Telugu.”

In the second phase, half translated scripts, scripts translated from Sanskrit to Grandhikam and allotted to scholars for completion into normal language will be taken up. In the third phase, simultaneously, Vedas, Vedangas, Puranas and Itihasas will be listed and allotted to renowned scholars for translation of the ancient scripts into Telugu.

Explaining further, the V-C said the university will provide all facilities to scholars engaged in the project,  on par with the university students. Computers and other necessary infrastructure will also be created. The aim is to take the project work to printing as and when completed to meet the deadline.

The university administration has invited tenders from publishers for printing the project work. A panel will be formed to award the project work. Sri Venkateswara Vedic University has also finalised the pay and allowances to renowned scholars for their translation work. The same has been sent to the Executive Council for approval,” official sources said.
