26 passengers injured after bus flips over near NAD Junction in Visakhapatnam

At around 4:15 a.m, the driver of the bus tried to avert a collision with a lorry but lost control over the vehicle and it flipped over.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Twenty-six passengers, travelling from Vijayawada to Rajam in Srikakulam district, were injured when a lorry rammed into a private bus at 4.15 am near NAD Junction on Wednesday. The bus overturned after the lorry rammed into its rear side.  

According to Airport police station inspector M Seshu, the truck driver hit the bus from behind. There were about 40 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident. Around 26 passengers, including six women, were injured. The  highway patrolling team and local police rescued the passengers by breaking open the emergency doors. The injured passengers were shifted to King George Hospital.

According to the doctors, three of the injured, R Kantham, 40, K Sarojini, 55, and A Gowtham Kumar, 29, suffered grievous injuries and were admitted to critical care unit.  Another passenger, T Ramesh, 25, sustained a crush injury on the left leg. All the passengers belong to Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Rajam. “As per preliminary investigation, the mishap occurred due to the carelessness of the truck driver. The same driver was involved in another accident last year. He crashed his truck into an autorickshaw causing the death of a person,” said M Seshu.
