HYDERABAD: A division bench of Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday made it clear that the case filed seeking to establish Andhra Pradesh High Court in Rayalaseema region could be examined and considered for out of turn hearing only after the advocates called off their ongoing strike on the issue.
The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi was dealing with a petition filed by Narayaswamy, advocate from Rayalaseema, who requested the bench to hear the case urgently as the strike was going on there. Last year, Narayana Swamy filed a PIL contending that as per the Sribagh Agreement (between the leaders representing coastal and Rayalaseema regions) the High Court has to be located in Kurnool. The then bench had ordered notices to the Centre and the AP government to respond to the PIL. On Tuesday, Swamy requested the bench to take up his case out of turn as the advocates strike on high court issue was going on in the region. The bench expressed displeasure at the request and said that after calling off the strike such request could be considered.
Advocates’ bid to storm collectorate foiled
Kurnool: On day 32, advocates’ protest demanding establishment of High Court in Kurnool, turned violent on Tuesday as protesters tried to barge into the Collectorate, where Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy was holding a review meeting. Police stopped the protesters when they tried to storm the building by climbing the gate. Heated arguments were exchanged between police and advocates, protesters shouted slogans against the police and the minister.
