Hyderabad High Court issues notice to Andhra Pradesh on caste certificate

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Andhra Pradesh government to respond to a PIL filed seeking directions to the authorities to issue certificates.

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Andhra Pradesh government to respond to a PIL filed seeking directions to the authorities to issue caste/ tribe social status certificates in accordance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court in Kumari Madhuri Patil case.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi was admitting the PIL filed by I Suryanarayana from Kakinada who complained that the AP government authorities have failed to streamline the procedure for issuance of social status certificates and constitute scrutiny committees in accordance with the Supreme Court directions. Petitioner’s counsel J Satya Prasad submitted that all the State governments have to follow the Supreme Court directions in issuance of social status certificates.

In AP, directions were not implemented, he pointed out. Taking these submissions into consideration, the bench issued notices to the state chief secretary and the principal secretaries to social welfare, tribal welfare and backward classes welfare for filing their counter affidavits on the issue. The bench posted the matter to March 20 for further hearing.
