Andhra Pradesh: Man sets house afire, kills wife, ‘paramour’

A man killed his wife and her alleged paramour by setting on fire the thatched house in which the two were together.

NELLORE:  A man killed his wife and her alleged paramour by setting on fire the thatched house in which the two were together. First he latched the door from outside before setting the house on fire and waited until he was sure the two were dead before fleeing. He even threatened locals with dire consequences if they made any attempt to save his wife and her alleged lover.

The incident took place at Kollamitta village of Muthkur mandal in the district on Wednesday morning. The accused, Haribabu, hailing from Kollamitta, married Kavitha (35) some 20 years ago. The couple had two daughters.

After Haribabu became addicted to vices, Kavitha started staying separately in the same village with her two daughters for the past two years. Recently, Kavitha performed marriage of her elder daughter without support from her husband. Meanwhile, Kavitha allegedly developed an extra-marital relationship with a youth identified as Sreenivas. After finding that Sreenivas was visiting Kavitha regularly, Haribabu warned his wife to stop the relationship. However, Kavitha allegedly ignored the warning.

“After finding them together, Haribabu latched the house from outside and set it on fire. The duo were engulfed in flames and screamed for help. Some locals tried to rescue them but Haribabu stood at the burning house and prevented them from dousing the flames by threatening them with dire consequences,’’ Rural DSP K Raghava Reddy said.It was only after satisfying himself that both were dead, Haribabu left the place, police said. A manhunt was launched to arrest Haribabu.
