Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board conducts waste management workshop

Presentations on various plastic recycling techniques being practiced across the globe were given to the stakeholders.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board conducted a state level workshop on ‘Waste Management’ on Wednesday at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, and invited all stakeholders to discuss various measures to tackle increasing plastic pollution in the State. The theme of the workshop was ‘beat plastic pollution’.

Presentations on various plastic recycling techniques being practiced across the globe were given to the stakeholders. Minister for Environment, Forest, Science & Technology Sidda Raghava Rao addressed the gathering and asked for industries to come up with advanced and innovative techniques to tackle the increasing plastic consumption.

“If we do not control plastic waste, it will poses a threat to our existence. In coming days, the pollution control board is going to take severe actions on those industries which do not abide by the regulations,” he said. Vivek Yadav, member secretary of APPCB, opined that plastic usage cannot be avoided but the plastic waste produced should be taken care of though recycling. The APPCB officials expressed their concern about plastic usage not going down even after imposition of fines.
