Bid to block National Highway foiled, VHP, BJP leaders held

Vedayapalem police took VHP and BJP leaders into custody when they tried to block the National Highway here on Thursday denouncing externment of Swamy Paripoornananda from Hyderabad city.

NELLORE: Vedayapalem police took VHP and BJP leaders into custody when they tried to block the National Highway here on Thursday denouncing externment of Swamy Paripoornananda from Hyderabad city. VHP and BJP activists who staged a protest, raised slogans against the Telangana State government for externing Swamy Paripoornananda for deploring the comments made by film critic Kathi Ramesh against Lord Rama.

VHP leader Menta Rammohan Rao, M Srinivasulu, Marem Vijayalakshmi and Swami were taken into police custody. BJP district vice-president Midathala Ramesh and 20 others leaders were also held for stating a protest on the National Highway.

BJP leader Ramesh alleged that the State government was trying to suppress the Hindu organisations. VHP State vice-president M Vijayalakshmi said that the Telangana government should lift the ban on Swamy Paripoornananda of Sri Peetham of Kakinada and allow him to return to Hyderabad. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had failed to respond on the issue, which hurt the sentiments of Hindus, she said. VHP leaders Ramakrishna, AV Rammohan Rao, P Balaji, Venkatesh and others were present.

In Kadapa also, the police foiled ‘Rasta Roko’ planned by the VHP and BJP against the externment of Swamy Paripoornananda. Several VHP and BJP leaders were kept under the house arrest  to prevent them from taking part in the road blockade. The police action was deplored by the VHP and BJP leaders.

House arrest of saffron leaders causes tension

Kurnool : The protest planned by the BJP, VHP and Bajrang Dal against externment of Swamy Paripoornananda from Hyderabad city, caused tension here on Thursday when the police foiled it. Several leaders, including VHP State working president Sai Reddy, vice-president Somisetty Venkata Ramaiah, BJP State executive member K Narasimha Varma and others were kept under house arrest.

The police also stopped the Sangh Parivar leaders from assembling at Rajvihar Circle to organise a Rasta Roko. The police, led by DSP S Yugandhar, arrested as many 100 protesters, including Bajrang Dal State co-convener T Pratap Reddy, BJP State vice-president K Kapileswaraiah, BJP district president K Harish Babu, VHP city president L Amarsimha Reddy and others when they tried to organise Rasta Roko at Rajvihar Circle in the city.

BJP State vice-president Kapileswaraiah demanded an unconditional apology from the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for externing Swamy Paripoornananda from Hyderabad city for condemning the objectionable remarks of film critic Kathi Mahesh against Lord Rama.  He also demanded withdrawal of cases registered against the protesters in connection with the row.
