Rs 3 crore-worth red logs seized in Andhra Pradesh

KADAPA: In a major joint combing operation by the police and forest officials, 99 red sanders logs worth
Rs 3 crore were seized at various places in the district.Despite heavy combing and strict vigil by the police and forest officials to contain the red sanders smuggling in the district, it is being carried out unabated and the seizure of red sanders worth `3 crore revealed it.

The police and forest officials conducted raids at various places in Rayachoti and Vempalli and seized 99 red sanders logs.Kadapa DFO Shiva Prasad on Monday said that he got information that over 80 woodcutters were moving in the forest area. The police and forest officials conducted a joint operation and spotted the woodcutters at Peddathotla Narva.

When the police tried to overpower the woodcutters, they attacked the police with axes and stones and managed to escape into the forest leaving the red sanders logs. The police launched an extensive combing operation to nab the escaped woodcutters who hail from Tamil Nadu, the DFO said.
