Andhra Pradesh: Krishna delta to get Godavari water through PLIS

West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has said that in view of heavy inflows into River  Godavari, the flood water will be released to Krishna Delta ayacut through the PLIS.

ELURU: West Godavari District Collector K Bhaskar has said that in view of heavy inflows into River  Godavari, the flood water will be released to Krishna Delta ayacut through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS). He said the inflows into River Godavari have risen due to heavy rainfall in the catchment area.

He was presiding over a review meeting on agriculture at the Collectorate here on Wednesday.
Addressing the meeting, he said already 30,000 cusecs of water was flowing in River Godavari and 15,000 cusecs would meet the irrigation needs of West Godavari district. He said the remaining 15,000 cusecs should be utilised without allowing it to go waste by flowing into the sea.

The Collector said it was decided to divert the excess water to Krishna Delta in a phased manner. As PLIS water flow into Eluru Krishna Canal would be delayed, it was decided to divert the water from Eastern Locks on Eluru outskirts to provide irrigation facility to Denduluru, Pedapadu and Eluru mandals where farmers could raise nurseries.

Seed beds would be raised in an area of about 440 hectares in these three mandals, he said and added that he would inspect the Eastern Locks area on Thursday. He directed the officials to arrange power supply to these motors to lift  water from the Godavari.

Bhaskar said paddy nurseries should have been raised in about 11,000 hectares in the district by this week. However, they were raised only in 3,000 hectares.
