GUNTUR: In a daring  robbery in borad daylight in the Amaravati capital region, three miscreants entered the house of one Meka Vema Reddy at Penumaka, thrashed his family members, snatched the almirah keys before tying them up and then decamped with Rs 78 lakh cash and 20 sovereigns of gold on Thursday.

Vema Reddy’s relative Kamala, an old woman, said initially two miscreants entered the house and started beating her mercilessly and pushed her to a corner. She said she had fallen on the floor in the melee. The duo opened the almirah with the keys they snatched from her and picked up a black bag which contained Rs 78 lakh cash. They also took away 20 sovereigns of gold from the almirah, she said.
Kamala said her daughter-in-law Siva Parvathi tried to enter the room where she had fallen but another person dragged her away into another room.

Siva Parvathi said she had thought that something was wrong after hearing some people shouting and enter her aunt Kamala’s room but a youth attacked her and dragged her away into another room. She said the miscreant had tied her both hands with a rope and beat her.

Vema Reddy lodged a complaint with SP Ch Vijaya Rao stating that he had sold two acres of land recently and received Rs 2.8 crore cash. He purchased gold and another piece of land at a cost of Rs 40 lakh. An amount of Rs 2 crore was kept in bags and the rest of the cash was kept in an almirah.

DSP G Ramakrishna said three miscreants reached Vema Reddy’s house on a motorcycle and said to Kamala that they had come to admit one Nayudu’s children in their college.

She said she did not know anybody by name Nayudu and asked them to go away from her house. However, the miscreants overpowered the women and took to heels with Rs 78 lakh cash and 20 sovereigns of gold ornaments.

Ramakrishna said 10 teams were formed to nab the miscreants. Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao rushed to the spot and started investigation. He said the police have already found some clues to nab the miscreants.
