Underground drainage works in zones 1, 2 to end by November in Guntur

The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has set November as the deadline for completion of underground drainage (UGD) works in zones one and two.

GUNTUR: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has set November as the deadline for completion of underground drainage (UGD) works in zones one and two. The project in the remaining zones must be completed by December, it said. Implementation of the project in the city has been divided into five zones and each one will have a sewage treatment plant with capacity of 126 million litres per day (MLD).
In a recent meet with officials of the GMC’s public health department and representatives of Shapoorji Pallonji Group, GMC special officer and district Collector K Sasidhar and civic chief Srikesh B Lathkar reviewed progress of the project and instructed officials concerned to expedite the works.

T Sampath Kumar, executive engineer of the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department, said 514 km pipelines, of the total 1,083 km, were already laid; construction for 27,767 of 87,000 inspection chambers were done; 18,245 of 43,500 manholes were built.   Also, during his recent inspection of the UGD project, MP Galla Jayadev said the public were facing problems due to delay in works.  Areas such as Shyamala Nagar, Tarakarama Nagar, Pothru Colony, Pattabhipuram, SVN Colony and Ashok Nagar come under zones 1 and 2.
