Cops flag off Prajachaitanya Ratham at NTR Stadium in Guntur district on Sunday

By Express News Service

GUNTUR: Guntur Rural Police launched the ‘Pledge for Democracy’ smartphone application and Prajachaitanya Ratham, with the help of which cops will enact plays with an aim to ‘create awareness among people to cast their votes for a better society’.

During the launch programme at NTR stadium in the city on Sunday, Guntur Collector K Sasidhar and Rural SP SV Rajasekhara Babu announced that police personnel would tour villages in the district and enact plays for the public highlighting the importance of them exercising their franchise for better governance. Speaking on the occasion, Rajasekhara Babu exhorted the people to elect leaders who would be of better service to the people instead of bartering their votes for liquor and money or succumbing to caste politics and, thereby, eroding democracy.

Collector Sasidhar was all praise for the programme and said the innovative initiative would usher in change among the rural people and make them realise about the fruits of ethical voting.

He appealed the youth to register themselves as voters and verify their names in the website of the Election Commission. “People don’t have to fear voting for the candidates of their choice as all the volatile areas in the district have been identified and robust security cover will be deployed there,” he assured.

SP Venkata Narayana, Additional SP Varadarajulu, RDO Veerabrahmam, DSP M Snehita, walker’s association members, senior citizens and others participated.
