Andhra Pradesh government to establish 3,775 ward secretariats in ULBs

According to GO issued by Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, J Syamala Rao, each ward secretariat would cater to 4,000 population in ULBs.

VIJAYAWADA: The State government on Saturday issued orders for establishing ward secretariats in all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the State on the lines of village secretariats. About 3,775 ward secretariats, with 10 secretaries each, would be set up with an aim to revamp delivery system in the State and to improve living standards of the people through the concept of ‘Navaratnalu’ as core theme of governance. 

According to the government order issued by Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, J Syamala Rao, each ward secretariat would cater to 4,000 population in ULBs.

“To bring transparency and accountability in delivery of government services to the citizens, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has announced the creation of ward secretariats in urban areas, consisting of about 10 functional assistants to work in coordination with the ULBs and provide services to every 4,000 population in the State,” the GO said.

The notification for the recruitment of the secretaries would be issued on Monday, the GO said. Written tests for the applicants would be held between August 15 to September 15, and the appointments would be made by September 20.

The secretaries recruited initially will be on probation for a period of two years at a consolidated stipend of Rs 15,000 per month. After probation, the department concerned would fix the salary as per service rules. As per the GO, the budget required for establishing ward secretariats, development of infrastructure and payment of salaries is estimated to be Rs 630 crore.
