Chanchalguda jail superintendent on Wednesday wrote a letter to Director General of Prisons about the indefinite fast undertaken by YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

A copy of the letter was also sent to the Special CBI Court, which is dealing with Jagan’s alleged disproportionate assets cases. The Kadapa MP had on August 25 announced his decision to sit on a hunger strike in support of the ongoing agitation in Seemandhra, just a day after police broke up his mother YS Vijayalakshmi’s deeksha amid high drama in Guntur.

The superintendent, in his letter, gave details about the health condition of Jagan and the steps taken by jail authorities to monitor his health. Following Jagan’s hunger strike, the authorities have stopped mulaqats for him, which means none will be allowed to meet him in jail.

According to sources, the authorities invoked provisions under Section 302 of the Prisoners Act 1894 to “punish” Jagan for resorting to hunger strike against the prison rules. Prison officials said they had not received any representation from Jagan about his undertaking indefinite fast till now.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up around the jail premises with an increasing number of Jagan’s supporters flocking to the place to express their solidarity with him.
