Taking serious exception to the way the Centre is setting out to divide the state, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday said it only showed that the Congress has no qualms that people face hardships, as long as its political interests are served.

Naidu, who decided against sending a delegation to the all-party meeting in Delhi, explained his stand at a news conference, which he scheduled at the hour given to the TDP to present its views before the GoM. “We have been asking the Centre to invite leaders of the Joint Action Committees in the two regions of the state and try to sort out the differences. But our demand has become a cry in the wilderness as the Congress does not care for wise counsel and is preoccupied with ways to benefit from the division politically,” he said.

Chandrababu Naidu ridiculed the Congress for its inability to bring about consensus among its own leaders and wondered if that is the case, how could it seek the opinion of others. The two Congress leaders who met the GoM expressed divergent views.

Deputy chief minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha says Telangana state would be created by January 1, while Vatti Vasanatha Kuamr said a serious effect had been made to keep the state united, he said. “The entire exercise seems to be to prepare ground to shift the blame on to others if the division move boomerangs,” he said.

From the beginning, Naidu said, it was clear that the Congress wanted to benefit from the spoils of state bifurcation. “The Congress is the puppeteer and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and K Chanrasekhara Rao are its puppets. If one is an adopted son the other is a hired one. All this only to make Rahul Gandhi, a dunce, the prime minister of the country,” Naidu pointed out.

He said he had no hope that justice would be done to the people in the two regions under Congress rule.
