Members of Palem Bus Victims’ Families Action Committee, on Monday morning, met transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana, who is learnt to have responded positively to their demands, for the first time since the ghastly bus inferno that killed 45 bus passengers.

The committee members, who raised four main demands with the minister, have also set a deadline till Sankranti for meeting their demands. According to D Sudhakar, coordinator of the committee, the minister had spoken to director general of police (DGP) B Prasada Rao regarding action against those responsible for the mishap. “After Botcha’s direction to file a case against JC Diwakar Reddy, Prabhakar Reddy and Uma Reddy, we met the DGP too. He has promised to arrest the culprits soon,” said Sudhakar.

About the major demands--`25 lakh compensation and a government job for the kin of the victims--Sudhakar said the minister has promised to take up the issue with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

They also demanded seizure of all illegal buses and bringing them under the APSRTC fold. Also, they demanded that all private bus employees who might get affected in the process be taken as outsourced employees of the RTC. Sudhakar said Botcha has accepted the demand.

The committee would continue to fight against the corrupt transport mafia.
