Taking serious exception to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s stand on bifurcation, Karimnagar Congress MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday said by doing so he was trying to stall formation of Telangana state, which in fact would harm the interests of Seemandhra.

In an open letter to Naidu, Prabhakar said at a time when the Cetnre was willing to help Seemandhra people reconstruct their state with generous funding, the TDP chief was trying to prevent it. He said Naidu kept changing his stand on Telangana, putting chameleons to shame.

Contending that the Telangana movement was just, Prabhakar said any attempt by Naidu to stall Telangana statehood would only boomerang on him. The MP said Naidu alleges that the state was being divided to make Rahul Gandhi the prime minister. Rahul Gandhi, if he really wanted to, could have become the prime minister in 2009 itself, he said.

Naidu, by repeatedly asking why the Congress was dividing Telugu people, shows that he was against Telangana state.

The Congress, Naidu should note, had taken the fifth option of Justice Srikrishna Committee, which proves he wrong in saying the committee’s report had been junked.

Prabhakar said Naidu’s demand that the Centre should call leaders of the Joint Action Committees of the two regions for talks does not hold water since decisions are taken by political parties and not students and leaders of movements.

Another point that no Telanganite understands is “equitable justice” being demanded by Naidu, the MP said and wondered why Naidu had not say a word of sympathy when hundreds of students ended their lives.
