Though the BJP and TDP have arrived at a broad agreement on seat-sharing in Telangana, the official announcement has been delayed as both sides are still ironing out “minor irritants”, particularly on some contentious constituencies.

According to the agreement, the saffron party will contest 45 Assembly and eight Lok Sabha seats in Telangana. Leaders of both parties met at the house of Rajya Sabha member Naresh Gujral in Delhi on Tuesday.

TDP leader M Narasimhulu told Express that with both top BJP leaders Arun Jaitley and Rajnath Singh expected to return to the national capital on Tuesday night, a formal announcement would be made on Wednesday evening.

According to sources, neither the TDP nor BJP is keen on giving up on constituencies like Chevella, Malkajgiri and Secunderabad. With the election notification for Telangana expected on Wednesday, the two sides are keen to formalise the alliance the same day.

As far as a pact in Seemandhra is concerned, TDP doesn’t foresee problems, though a deal hasn’t been worked out yet.

As nominations in Seemandhra open only on April 12, the priority for both the parties is Telangana.

Meanwhile TDP release separate manifesto, Rs.10 lakh financial aid and a government job for every family of martyrs and withdrawal of all cases.

BJP’s Seemandhra chief K Haribabu, who was in Delhi with his team, had to return as the party was busy sealing a deal with TDP in Telangana.

TDP is prepared to concede eight Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra but BJP is seeking 18-20 Assembly and five to six Lok Sabha seats.

TDP is understood to be willing to offer Tirupati, Rajampet, Narasapuram but BJP wants Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry as well.

While Yanamala Rama Krishnudu, K Narayana, L Ramana, Dayakar Rao and M Narasimhulu represented TDP on Tuesday, Kishan Reddy, Dattatreya and Prakash Javadekar participated from BJP’s side.
