TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said any leader wanting a YSRC ticket should be able to spend at least a week in prison. Naidu’s sarcastic comments came in the wake of the YSRC choosing Samanya Kiran, whose husband was jailed in a corruption case in West Bengal, as its candidate for Chittoor Lok Sabha seat.

Naidu said the YSRC is a party which looted public wealth by involving in large-scale irregularities and rampant corruption.“YSRC is a jail and bail party and in case the people vote for that party, they too should remain in jail,” he said.

Addressing roadshows in the temple town on Monday night, Naidu recalled that Samanya Kiran’s husband was imprisoned due to involvement in a corruption case. “The YSRC kept it as an eligibility criterion, those leaders who intend to get the tickets of the party should spend at least a week in jail. We used to feel proud while introducing our classmates but the YSRC leaders are proud to give tickets to prisoners,” he ridiculed.

Alleging that jail mates of Jagan, red sander smugglers, ATM robbers as well as fake note makers became leaders in YSRC, he said the YSRC leaders are even resorting to distribution of counterfeit notes to woo voters and cautioned the people to beware. “Else, you will also land in jail for possessing such notes,” he said. Charging the YSRC leadership with encouraging rowdyism in the temple town of Tirupati, Naidu promised to restore spiritualism to the town and develop it on the lines of Hyderabad. He said the Congress party, which bifurcated the state unilaterally, disappeared from people’s minds. After the joining of some Brahmin leaders into the party in Tirupati, which has a sizeable population of the community, Naidu announced several sops for them. Brahmins from Chittoor district will be made TTD Trust Board members , he announced and also promised to give one MLC seat each to Brahmins in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He wanted the Brahmins to support the TDP. Congress leader and Tirupati cooperative bank chairman Puligori Muralikrishna joined the TDP in the presence of Naidu. The party’s Tirupati candidate M Venkataramana and BJP Lok Sabha candidate K Jayaramaiah were among those who accompanied Naidu.

Earlier in the day, the TDP chief addressed roadshows at AS Puram in GD Nellore constituency, Aragonda in Putalapattu constituency and Chandragiri constituency headquarters.

The party candidates G Kutuhalamma, Dr P Lalitha Kumari and Galla Aruna Kumari were present in their respective constituencies.  Naidu’s roadshows and meetings attracted a huge crowd and the TDP chief took a dig at both the Congress and YSRC in his speeches at all the places.
