In another case of ragging, the police on Thursday registered a case against seven students of the Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (GIET) and arrested three of them.

Disclosing this to newsmen at the One Town police station, DSP Anil Kumar said Bherathi Chandra Mouli, Ballarapu Sanni Krishna and Kadiyala Bala Chandra Mouli were arrested.

Manish Varma, Pushparaj, Vishnu Vardhan and Praneeth, the other accused in the case, are at large.

Giving the case details, the DSP said Chintala Sai Naren Sri Harsha is a first year BTech (civil) engineering student of the college.

The seven accused had been harassing and abusing Sri Harsha for quite a long time.

On November 14, Sri Harsha went to see morning show in Urvasi theatre complex. The seven seniors who lay in wait for him, forcibly took Sri Harsha in a car to various places in the town.

After snatching his wallet and cellphone, they abandoned him at the GAIL office in AV Appa Road. Sri Harsha then lodged a complaint with the One Town police against the seven senior students on Wednesday. The accused are studying second, third and fourth year BTech.

Chintala Prasada Rao, father of Sri Harsha, said his son underwent a minor surgery for the injury inflicted on his nose by the accused, at Harsha Hospital.

Even if Sri Harsha was being harassed by his seniors for the past few months, the college management had failed to take any action against them, he said.

Speaking Express, GIET principal Ramji said Sri Harsha gave an oral complaint to him on Wednesday that he was being harassed by Sanni Krishna, Manish Varma, Pushparaj, Vishnu Vardhan and Kittu. The five students were suspended immediately. Their parents were also informed about the suspension, he said. The college management took many measures to prevent ragging on the campus.

An Anti-Ragging Committee consisting of parents and teachers was also constituted to educate the students on the ill-effects of ragging, he added.
