After some hiatus, Congress Party in the Seemandhra region is again witnessing desertions to YSR Congress (YSRC).

Government whip Perni Venkata Ramaiah alias Nani (Machilipatnam) is the latest legislator of the Congress to extend his support to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Perni Nani met the YSRC president at Chanchalguda jail here on Thursday. Later, speaking to reporters, Nani announced he had resigned from his post and the Congress party to join the YSRC. “I will soon join the YSRC as per the wishes of the people of my constituency. Right from the beginning of my political career, I am a fan of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. People of my constituency reaped the benefits of various welfare schemes introduced by YSR,” said Nani. He alleged that the Centre, the Congress and the TDP had conspired against Jagan. “As the government is harassing Jagan with false cases, it is my to duty to extend support to him. People of my constituency are asking me to stand by Jagan at this hour of crisis,” he said.

Nani’s decision to shift his political allegiance to Jagan is not surprising. The young legislator had already extended his support to the YSRC by taking part in the “Odarpu Yatra”. In fact, following the Centre’s recent efforts to untangle the T-tangle, some Congress MLAs had postponed their defections. However, in the wake of the delaying tactic by the Centre, exodus of legislators seems to have once again begun from the Congress to the YSRC.
