HYDERABAD: Amid protests and a bandh call by TRS workers and other Telangana supporters, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today took part in the Rachabanda (village junction) mass-contact programme in Telangana region.

Protesting against the alleged harassment of TRS workers by the police for the Chief Minister’s visit, the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) called for a bandh in Adilabad district today.

Defying the protests and the bandh call, the Chief Minister participated in the Rachabanda programme at Tanoor village in Mudhole mandal of Adilabad district.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the Rachabanda programme is successful in checking whether the benefits of welfare schemes reached the target beneficiaries or not and to provide the poor with ration cards, Arogya Sri health insurance cards among others.

The government will be providing 50 per cent reservation for women from the coming local body polls, he said.

The government is making efforts to get national project status to the Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project being planned at a cost of Rs 36,000 crore on Godavari river that would benefit Adilabad district, he said.

An official release said a large number of people, public representatives and other leaders participated in the meeting at the remote village in Adilabad district.

Meanwhile, TRS workers and others tried to disrupt the programme in various Telangana districts like Karimnagar and Warangal among others.
