NADIKERI: One lakh saplings will be planted in each district under the Mass Sapling Planting Programme and awareness will be created among youths on how to safeguard nature for future generation, said Western Ghat Task Force chairman Ananth Hegde Ashisara.

In Chikmagalur, there are only medicinal plants on the campus of Ayurveda College, while in Shravanabelagola, there is a Bio-Diversity Park under the supervision of Swamiji, he said, adding Swamiji of Swarnavalli Mutt is giving various types of saplings to the general public, who visited the mutt during his Chaturmasa programme.

Talacauvery in Kodagu, Shalmala in Uttara Kannada will be given importance and Amruthmahal Kaval, a natural spice of grass grown in Chikmagalur, Hassan and Chitradurga will be protected and grown in large numbers and organic farming will also  be encouraged, he added.
