MYSORE: Parents who physically abused their nine-year-old son in the city recently, were sentenced to ‘serve’ for two days in a girls hostel as punishment by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

The victim’s step-father Yogesh and mother Razia appeared before the Juvenile Justice Court on Tuesday and were awarded the punishment, besides a penalty of `8,000, which they have to spend on the boy’s education. The parents apologised for treating their son harshly and said they would take good care of the boy.

CWC chairman N T Venkatesh said the  parents cleaned and did the gardening in the girls hostel located on Lalita Mahal Road from morning till evening on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the boy refused to go with his parents. Hence, the CWC allowed him to stay in the Boys Balamandir in JP Nagar for two more months. Venkatesh said that they will hand him over his parents  or he could continue to stay there for some more time.
