BANGALORE: AICC president Sonia Gandhi Sonia Gandhi has instructed state Congress leaders to tour drought-hit areas of Karnataka and submit a report on the issue.

According to party sources, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr G Parameshwar met the party chief along with Opposition leaders in state Legislature,  Siddaramaiah and Motamma, on Friday.

Congress leaders invited Sonia to visit Karnataka to attend a party programme on April 28, which was accepted by her.

The party president is said to have  instructed the three leaders to tour the affected taluks in separate teams and submit a detailed report on the prevailing situation.

It may be pertinent to note that the state government has declared as many as 123 taluks as drought-hit and had launched several mitigatory programmes, including opening of goshalas, generate jobs and release additional funds.

The party president had also advised state Congress leaders to attend to the problems in the affected taluks before undertaking some of the party’s programmes
