CHITRADURGA: Describing setting up of ‘Krishna Kuteera’ as an inhuman act, the Janavadi Mahila Sangathane on Sunday urged the government to stop encouraging construction of these Kuteeras.

Krishna Kuteera is a home built by the government at all Yadava hattis. Girls and women in their menstrual cycle stay here. State vice-president of the Sangathane K Neela told media persons that by constructing the Kuteeras, the government is supporting an  inhuman practice. Hence, the issue will be brought to the notice of the National Human Rights Commission, National Commission for women and other organisations.

“Our main aim is to bail out women of the Yadava community from this practice which is as grave as devadasi system and bring them to the mainstream of society,” she remarked.

Neela also mooted setting up a task force to curb this practice prevailing in the backward Chitradurga, Tumkur and other districts. On importance of sanitation in the Hattis, she said, majority of them are ailing due to lack of proper sanitation.
