12 killed as truck, ambulance collide

The gruesome mishap occured when 18 people were taking the body of a dead relative back to their village by ambulance.

YADGIR/BELLARY: Twelve people, including four children, were killed, and six sustained injuries when an ambulance in which they were travelling collided head-on with a lorry on Bangalore-Gulbarga State Highway near Dhadesugur village in Sindhanur taluk of Raichur district on Tuesday. The injured were admitted to Bellary District Hospital. Of them, the condition of four is said to be critical.

The mishap occurred when around 18 people were taking the body of one Ningappa Hattikuni (45), who died in Bangalore, to Hattikuni village of Yadgir taluk in the ambulance.

Most of them died on the spot.

After the postmortem, the bodies were sent to the respective villages, police officials said. District in-charge Minister Narasimha Nayak visited Hattikuni and consoled the victims’ relatives.
