BELGAUM: Ten persons were killed and 20 injured when the truck they were travelling in hit another truck and turned turtle while attempting to overtake it at Salahalli of Ramdurg taluk in Belgaum on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Kamala Shivaji (50), Shivabai Naganath Sandre (70), Sumanabai Sandre (55), Kasturibai Saibanna Golasangi (40), Vimalabai Baburao Wadatile (60), Kantabai Pandurang Wadatile (50), Kalawati Wadatile (45), Asif Sultan Sait (25), Nandini Satish Golasangi (30) and Ravidra, all residents of Solapur.

According to sources, the victims were travelling from Solapur to Margankop village of Bailhongal taluk to attend a wedding.

The illfated truck tried to overtake another one loaded with jowar bags coming from Lingasur to Belgaum, when the driver lost control.

The injured have been admitted to government hospitals in Bagalkot, Lokapur and Mudhol.

This is the first major accident reported this year in the district.
