BELGAUM: Two shepherds were killed as lightning struck them at Savagaon in Belgaum on Sunday evening. The incident came to light on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Bhagappa Nagappa Mallammagouda, 34, and his brother Bharama Nagappa Mallammagouda, 28, of Honihal village near Sambra. According to police, the two were grazing sheep when heavy rain forced them to seek shelter.

They took shelter in an empty shed at the Army firing range ground in Savagaon. Lighting struck the shed, killing the two.

The incident came to light after the sheep returned home without their owners. The family members began a search for the two and tried to call on their mobile phones, but in vain. In the morning, the family found their bodies at the shed.
