GADAG: Political circles in the district are rife with speculations that Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda visited the region only to dent the influence of the supporters of his predecessor B S Yeddyurappa.

The visit by a team of ministers comprising Jagadish Shettar, Basavaraj Bommai, Govind Karjol, C M Udasi and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri to Gadag district on Tuesday to oversee relief work was cancelled at the last minute for inexplicable reasons.

However, except for Karjol, no other minister accompanied the CM during his visit here.

Karnataka Road Development Corporation Ltd Chairman Kalakappa Bandi, Bagalkot MP P C Gaddigoudar, MLAs C C Patil, Shrishailappa Bidarur, Ramanna Lamani — identified with Yeddyurappa and Shettar factions — were also present. Karjol told Express that the cancellation of the ministers’ visit had no political undercurrent.

“With the chief minister himself visiting the region, there was no need for the ministers’ tour. We have just postponed it by 8-10 days,” he said.
