RAICHUR: The problem for RTPS is not just the four units that went offline on Sunday and Monday — two units a day each — following the decrease in water inflow from the Krishna river.

Its other units too are having trouble. The plant’s remaining four units are not functioning at their optimum level following the water inflow touching a low of 2,500 cubic metres.

Unit 7 was closed at about 5.55 pm and unit 8 at 9.18 pm on Sunday. On Monday, unit 3 was closed at 1.22 am and unit 6 at 3.17 am.  The optimum generation capacity of the RTPS is 1,720 MW; following the closure of the four units, it has come down to 750 MW. RTPS executive director Bhaskar admitted that the situation at the plant was very serious.
