The accused Raja alias Kolli Kala of Anemala Haadi, allegedly attacked C K Kumar, a forest guard, with a machete.

Kumar was admitted to a hospital in HD Kote and is recuperating from the wounds on his wrist.

According to the complaint lodged at Beechanahalli Police Station in HD Kote taluk, Kumar found three timber smugglers, including Raja, carrying teakwood in the forest at 10.45 am.

Kumar, who was on patrol with two others staff, tried to nab them.

After a chase, he finally caught hold of Raja, who attacked him with a machete, police said.
